Had my second puncture today. I replaced the punctured inner tube, only for the replacement to puncture less than 5 minutes later.

I've had a good look at tyre and it looks like it has split on the side. They tyre in question is Michael Krylion Carbon.

I wondered if this was common and if there are ways to prevent it?

Check your brake block has not moved and is rubbing on the sidewall of your tyre.

Sounds dumb, but happened to me. Though I am dumb.

In future, you'll need to 'boot' your tyre to protect the tube when repairing a puncture from this type of thing.

I'm going out so can't explain this more fully now but someone will.
  • ive had this aswell, on a Krylion :)
mine was due to a pothole incident, where i assume the rim and the edge and the pothole in question cut the tyre, aswell as the tube

to fix it i fold up a bit of card and wedge it between tyre and tube... not had any problems since... just make sure to check it after riding in rain.
fyi, the hole in question is about 3 mm long, nothing major.

    hope this helps :D
    Go for the break
    Create a chaingang
Make sure you don't break your chain

or do what i did and use an old piece of inner tube and super glue. been fine for months and no problems :D

Or cut up the plastic milk cartons&put some double sided sticky tape on one side to hold it in place. It very neat&does'nt take up hardly any room in my saddle bag, handy for emergencies when the side wall gets damaged out on a ride.
  • I always little pieces of old tyre wall in the bum bag for this very incident

I had a similar issue with a Krylion tyre last year. It had done less than 100 miles when I got a puncture. Replaced the tube and it want a few miles later. That's when I noticed a 1 inch split where the side wall had come away from the bead. I sent an e-mail to the Michelin rep who posted on another forum and he claimed that there wasn't a known issue/bad batch............

Chain Reaction replaced the tyre for me.

I now carry a Park Tyre Boot just in case it happens again.

Same thing happened to me with a Continental race tyre.

I emailed Continental to complain and never heard anything back

I don't buy Continental tyres anymore

Why not just take it back to where you got it from? That's your first port of call with any quality issues, not the manufacturer.
