Hi.
I'm considering the 2011 model Specialized Hardrock Disc, but my local cycle shop is suggesting the Diamondback Outlook as it's a similar spec for £60 less.
Anyone agree/disagree?
Thanks

Does it have rear suspension?
In anycase I think better are to be had like the Carrera Vulcan and Decathlon Rockrider series.0 -

The specs are on these pages. I'm looking for a 22"-23" frame as I'm 6'3". Not interested in rear suspension. Thanks for advice.Specialized Hardrock Disc 2011

You need to try the models out to get the sizing correct. You could be anywhere from an 18inch plus - different brands are measured in different ways and have markedly varying geometry. The Hardrock has quite a long top tube for example. Reach is very important, and seatposts are much easier to adjust.
Some Outlooks had rear sus. The two bikes are very similar, the Hardrock having the better frame. I still think there are better buys for this cash though, both have pretty basic forks and parts and will be best suited to lighter off roading.0 -
I have got a 2010 Hardrock disc & it is very good. An excellent beginners mountainbike, good for upgrading as well, the frame is pretty good. Mine has now got Avid Juicy hydraulic brakes, Rockshox Tora forks & a Shimano Deore hollowtech crank set & it is now a very nice bike.
A friend rides a 21" Hardrock & he is 6' 4", best to try before you buy though.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
Thanks both for the advice. I'm not looking to go extreme off-road - more gravel paths, forest tracks, etc...
Think I'll stick with basic equipment to start, and upgrade as needed.Specialized Hardrock Disc 2011

Forgot to add:
I've asked my LBS to get a 23" hardrock in so I can try it. They seemed to think I'd be better suited to a 23" frame given my height - but I'll try before I buy.

Definitely the right thing to try some differnt frames of the same model. 6ft 3 is tall, but not that tall! Depends on many factors.0

As promised, my LBS got me a 23" Hardrock. Tried it, and compared to a 21" frame. Went for the 23" as I had room above the top bar (when standing on floor - 33" inside leg, plus bars felt in a better position), and the 21" felt too small.
Picking up later today once it's had the LBS check-over. Great start to the weekend!!!
