hello. i am thinking of getting some medium cage shimano slx plates for my long cage rear mech seeing as i have a duel set up and don't want to spend more money on a medium cage version. so can i just replace the plates to medium length?

    Don't think so.

You can get the outer plate off but the inner is linked up to the spring.

The only Shimano mech I know of that you defo can replace both of the plates is the XTR none shadow as you can fit those really cheap £120 carbon Yumeya to save about 5 grams - now that's money well spent.

I've got a spare SLX in my 'parts bin' - I'll take look in a bit....
