My pedals are really stiff to turn and probably only require a service... can anybody give me any pointers, I don't even know how to get into them?... Thanks in advance.

Take them off the cranks (big allen key / bit from the back of the crank, make sure you turn the right way) Good opportunity to grease the threads prior to reassembly.

Then you'll need the Shimano service tool TL-PD40 to unscrew the innards (couple of quid; Google it)

Have a look on Shimano Tech Docs for an exploded diagram of what to expect inside.

Flush out with a bit of WD40, and assuming nothing's disintegrated, replace everything packing with fresh grease as you go.
