Cleat/pedal Help

I am having trouble getting clipped back into my pedals.
I was doing a time trial recently and the starter held me in position and asked me to clip in. I had difficulty getting clipped in to my pedals and embarassment meant I stayed unclipped and waited until I started off and got going, which lost me a few seconds
Also approaching a junction or any such obstacles I tend to unclip one foot in anticipation of having to stop. I can unclip no problem, however struggle to get back in really smoothly.I do get back in but takes a while and a good bit of pressure.
The cleats set up is fine,
Is the spring on the pedal to tight, can I adjust?
My pedals are Time RXS . Is it perhaps some makes are better and easier than others?
Any help is much appreciated.

I used to have some of these for a few years (prior to a nasty crash in April which wrote them off) & did used to have issues sometimes clipping in. If you liked the pedals try the new Time iClic - engagement is instantaneous (sp?) when you put your foot on them.
There have been a few cleat wear issues with them but seem an ideal replacement if you like RXS but want to be able to clip in with no issues.
I believe the new Look Keo's (Blades?) have exactly the same engagement system as the iClic's if you fancy something different (it's a Time invention that Look licence IIRC)0 -
Cheers Pretre, thanks for the advice0
