One of the country's biggest junior races is this weekend, anyone on here riding it? If so good luck.

A look back over its history (and the Gwent Junior 2 Day as it used to be) shows an impressive list of participants.

I did it in 1990 and finished comfortably as lanterne rouge  , one of the years without a rider in the top 3 who went on to bigger things I think.

It happens, they do an excellent job most of the time and are one of the main reasons why we still manage to get some decent road racing down here including a couple of decent amateur stage races. If it wasn't for the NEG we'd be racing on motor racing circuits and I certainly wouldn't be trying to get back into racing if that were the case!

Bad luck to Sam Harrison who missed out on becoming the first home winner by a few seconds.
  • Two riders did go off course and yes one NEG motorcyclist damaged his machine.

If you would like to know the truth about how this happened just go to:

As for the date ... Pross is right, it's been on August Bank Holiday for at least the 17 years I've been involved.

    Talbot.

Well done Talbot, it's a great event and even in the days I rode it when it was a two day it gave junior riders a rare opportunity to take part in a stage race. With the current situation in many areas regarding policing costs, risk assessments and other issues forcing racing off the road and onto tedious closed circuits it's essential that we keep races of this standard going or we risk losing the likes of the top flight pros that appear in the results history of the race. Ill informed criticism of a race that takes so much organisation can't be a good thing.
