have just got the cash together to possibly get the 705 edge performance bundle but now the 800 has appeared on the scene. Now liking the 800 but will take a bit more of saving to get the 800. not sure if i missed it but could not see the release date. basically what i am asking is shall i hold out for the 800 or just go ahead with the 705 ?

    800 all day long!

Always get the latest tech, you will only regret it later (Unless your going from iPhone 3gs - iPhone 4 waste of time!)

list price of the 800 is lower than the 705

    this says mid-october...

...but that could be usa only, if it's popular or they take longer to get the sw working (they still haven't got the 705 sw working properly!) then it could take longer before you can get one
my bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny

Yeah I would wait for the 800, unless you really relly need something now.

It looks great, nice big screen etc etc.

I've got a 705 and I love it, but will stick with it for the foreseeable future.

Wow, that is a fantastic review!!!
  • Anybody read a review where the reviewer has used one of these units whilst wearing gloves? most touch screens don't work without a conductive link between you and the screen - i.e. your finger, or conductive gloves. I've read a few reviews and all those I've seen either haven't mentioned it, or haven't tried it.

It's well worth browsing his blog for other reviews as well.
  • Agreed - an excellent review, but still leaves the gloves issue unresolved. Unless we need a summer GPS to go with the summer bike, and a winter GPS to go with the winter bike! Now there's a thought!

That's only capacitative screens that need conductive contact. I would suspect the 800 is an older style resistive screen that just requires pressure
  • Yup - that could well be - but I'd kind of like to know the answer before I get too excited!

Well I've decided I'm going hold out and wait for the new shiny 800. Hope it's worth the wait and extra few £ :D

    good choice!

i have the 500 and love it, but im very tempted to part with it and get the 800 when it comes out.

    looks incredible.
  • Those asking about gloves should read that review...
Of course, a logical question is how does the screen perform if you put on a pair of winter gloves? Well, I set to find out. I started with the thinnest pair, and then moved up through the most common cycling gloves to some heavy duty sub-zero style gloves, I then finished it off with a pair of mittens. Here’s the ever-so-exciting video…try to hold back your excitement while you watch three riveting minutes of glove action – enough to make OJ nervous:

Edge 800 Touch Screen Glove Tests
As you can see, I was able to fairly easily manipulate the menu’s of the device, including both common tasks and those you might need to do quickly – like change display or bike settings. While there was an occasional ‘typo’, most of those were due to the fact I was trying to watch the lens as the same time.

    In short…no problems with gloves.

I'm itching for an 800, put this 605 I have to shame, it's so slow.
  • I'm in the same situation, but I had an 800 in my hands today @ eurobike & I'll be holding on for the 800 to arrive mid october.
  • i was on the verge of buying the 705 but i'll definitly hold off for the 800 now - look very slick indeed!
