Question of the day:

Having my endoscopy tomorrow and gotta be nil by mouth from 8am, do I lie in til it's time to go and not eat, or do I get up at 7am and have breakfast.

Bearing in mind I won't be eating until at least 3-4pm.

Lie in and not eat. If you eat at 7am by 11 you will be ravenous. If you sleep in til 11 won't be long til you can eat again :) Hope it goes OK.

Well they feed you at the hospital afterwards anyway, but the nhs have paid for a private hospital so who know's what I'll get.

No it isn't. Nil by mouth, means' nil by mouth (BTW, I'm having it engraved on my tombstone...). Having had a fair few endoscopy's in my time (IIRC 32), it is far less painful if you don't throw up half way through, which is a distinct possibility if you've eaten something. I got mistakenly given breakfast in hospital a couple of hours before the proceedure. It was both painful and very messy...

Also, see how long you can stay awake for when they put the magical white stuff in the back of your hand. I could manage 18 seconds...

I've known people actually not be affected by it and stay awake, hopefully that won't happen to me.
