A high end bike company will always suffer in these kind of economic positions.

What's more concerning is that it may demonstrate that it's not sustainable to have a team sponsored by a company from the bicycle business...

Not necessarily, remember Cervelo is a tiny company next to the likes of Specialized or Giant

I was really surprised that a company the size of Cervelo could afford a team of that scale/quality.

As Justin says, they're tiny relative to Spesh, Trek, Giant, Cannondale etc.
