Hi there,
Im still relatively new to biking having only started properly a few months back. I have started off riding on a second hand Boardman comp as a relatively cheap way of making sure it wasnt just going to be a fad. Im still going strong and im considering upgrading to a boardman pro.
I was just wondering for the extra few hundred quid will i really notice that much difference when riding? I do a fair bit of road cycling to and from work but need a mountain bike for weekend off roading.
Any advice appreciated

the comp is pretty well specd tbh....
I think the frames are the same throught the range** so i'd jsut upgrade as and when stuf wears out!
** just had a quick look and there may be small differences with the butting... probably just weight saving tbh,.0 -
I owned a Comp which was stolen and then replaced with a Pro (both 08 models)
N. Monkey is right, frame on Pro is triple butted and rest of range is double, so its a lighter frame. not a major difference though.
Main difference is spec of components. Do a few comparisons of bikes for that price range and you will find the Boardman Pro has the one of the best spec'd groupsets in its price bracket (same applies to the Comp in fact)
Again N.Monkey is right, you can just upgrade stuff when it wears out. Nothing wrong with that at all. But do take a look at prices of the componets you want, add them together on a simple spreadsheet or something and then compare the total with a new bike. If you are only going to replace things when they are completely knackered then this comparison may not be completely accurate as you would spend the money over a few years, not one big hit. However most people i know, myself included, have a serious addiction to new kit!
Personally i would look at a new bike, and you wont be dissapointed with the Pro. (find a reason to keep the Comp though if you can! Tell yourself you will use it in a future project or something! I know, because i just sold my Pro to make way for a new bike and am regretting it big time.)
Have a look around though and make plenty of comparisons to see what you can get for your cash.
Hope this helps2011 Orange Five Pro

Can't really see the point in owning a Comp and a Pro - pretty similar bikes no? :?
Depends what you're after - there's nothing you can do on a Pro which you can't do on a Comp - It would just be a little bit lighter - about a lb - which is nothing t.b.h
Just upgrade what you've got I sayKinesis xc 130:

@ neon_neon, i ment i was thinking of selling the comp and replacing it with a pro
Tbh i am really happy with the comp its just iv got the opportunity to buy quite a cheap second hand pro that seems to be spotless. Thing is i bought the comp quite cheap second and so could probs sell for a decent profit meaning i would only have a couple hundred left to pay which would mean the pro would only stand me at about £500-550.
Anyway thanks for the advice , some useful points there:) any more advice would also be appreciated0
