Hiya
I've decided to cycle 120 miles next summer as a challenge - hopefully with a friend! This'll probably be a one off, before I go back to my usual 10 mile commute/20-30 mile blast in the countriside. My max distance so far is 60 miles.
I was researching bikes earlier, and noticed that some road bikes are built for race/speed, and some for comfort (compact geometry/triple chainrings/sportive bikes?).
Can someone give me a pointer to what I should look for, up to about £650? Probably won't be buying till the new year anyway, but already getting excited...

If you can do 60 miles on your current bike then you can do 120 miles on it - just do it slower
It is true that some bikes have a "racier" feel than others but, apart from the gearing, the only way to find out if you're going to be comfortable on one is to try it - some people just get on better with a more "race" type bike. Good example at your kind of price range is the Specialized Allez & Secteur - Allez is more "race" orientated than the Secteur but some people find the Secteur just too "non-racy" for them0
