Try as many bikes in that price range as you can. Don't rush in, good lbs will let you trial a demo bike over wknds for example, best way to know if a bike is for you. Sit on everything, even above and below your budget to get an idea of what fits. The x3 is a wicked bike but only you will know if it feels right....

And remember to have fun choosing!

    I'd get a 2010 model at a reduced price ;)

+1 for 2010 bikes... Some sweet specs and wicked bikes out there, the new range just means better deals for us as they attempt to clear stock. Plus the 2011 season bikes are guaranteed to be 'slightly' more expensive...

Me too. Discounts can be massive (30-40%) when new models come out. Often nothing in it but the paint job.

I have an anthem X4 and I totally love it

that is very cheap for the X3 which has the added advantage of a lockout on the rear shock, very lovely bike

Agree with TopCat. I too have an X4. The upright position dosen't suit eveyone but helps weight distribution across the bike and drives the rear wheel into the ground giving phenomenal handling.

Hope you make the right choice and enjoy the ride.
