Any recommendations on decent long term BB, Hope, CK, how about cheaper brands (Token) etc any surprises or are they cheap tat. Must have replaceable bearings. And does Ceramic really make any difference, if you not a pro or top rider.

Ive got a saint bb which has lasted me ages. Superstar ones are good cause they have bigger bearings to prolong life :) only £20

Had mine for 2 + years in my Orange 5 and it's been through 2 sh1tty winters, many rivers and bogs, 4 foot drops and landed on the crank end and it still spins as good as the day I got it with zero maintenance.

Generally the solution to the external bb problem is to throw money at it, better quality bearings tend to survive longer especially when the BB is faced properly and the cranks installed correctly.

Hope stainless work well IIRC they use SKF bearings which are really good. For other manufacturers try to determine from their websites which bearings they use and go from there.

Another vote for Hope Ceramic. Killed the original Shimano LX in 3 months, fitted Hope and a year later it's still going strong and spinning easily.
