Numpty GPS spoke magnet Q

Hi

Ive just fitted my new shiny Garmin but cant get the spoke magnet over my bladed spoke

I can see how its useful for turbo trainers but is the magnet necessary if I never take it to the dungeon ?

I was surprised to see it in the box, and hadnt realised the cadence sensor also did conventional speed

Why do they do this and do I need it?

PS Ive just ordered a Mavic one that will fit

Cheers

  • Other than using it on a turbo, the only reason for it is as backup when you haven't got a GPS signal - eg when going through heavy tree cover or through tunnels.

I don't bother with it on my 305. Similar to you I could not easily line it up, and anyway I didn't want a largely superfluous magnet on the wheel

You could always get a small rare earth magnet (Eg here) and epoxy it onto the spoke.
