Comfortable geometry ?

After an absence of 15 years out of the saddle my midlife crisis is kicking in (or so I am told). Im looking to ride a more comfortable geometry rather than an out and out race set up, a nice splash of carbon with a half decent groupset. Two years ago I ran the New York Marathon - not that you could tell now ! So I have a new challenge, riding the Etape du Tour with some friends ! My budget is around the £1300 mark, so far the two I like the look of are the Boardman Team Carbon and a Pearson Pave ( Ive been told the Pave set up is a comfortable ride, is the Boardman?) I understand that whatever bike I end up with, Contador would still beat me up The Tourmalet on my (dead) granny's knackered fold up.

Any ideas welcome
Thanks !

Welcome back to the saner side of life.

Re your query, as with all things 'Try before you buy'.

If at all possible see if you can get an extended run with your chosen bikes, only then can you see if it is right for you. Any recommendations that you get will be tempered by the fact that we are all individuals.

This weeks Cycling Weekly states that frames are made to cover 70% of riders but of course that leaves 30% that they don't.

My first serious bike was a Giant scr 1 which after getting used to the ride etc has been very comfortable without a laid out riding position. But I have a long back and comparatively short legs - although they do reach the ground sometimes.

Best wishes with you search and the future - not Grrr 'the upcoming', etape.

The sales of 2010 bikes have started. Plowmar is spot on with advice.. no beats sitting in the saddle.

By the way jejames have some fantastic deals on giant!
Why tidy the house when you can clean your bike?

I went for the Giant Defy range also,
They have some nice comfortable road bikes in the range, carbon is there, and the bike is well respected amongst the guys in the know.

Just a note on the boardman bikes.
Two mates have gone down that route, and now regret it.
There are much better bikes with far better backup and service out there.
    Its a buyers market.
