Canyon Bikes...

After seeing them in Le Tour, and a number of other posts cropping up in the your bike forum here. I took a browse on the website. And ended up spending ages reading all the materials etc. I've always been a fan of reducing the number of links in the chain from factory to consumer. Canyon seem to have it down to a tee. Over the next 6-9months I'll be considering a new bike, after starting racing etc etc. And fancied this one:
http://www.canyon.com/_en/roadbikes/bike.html?b=1923
or maybe this one if I have the cash,
http://www.canyon.com/_en/roadbikes/bike.html?b=1925
The spec etc is insane for the price, and probably weight wise imposible to beat at this price point.
What are people stories and experiences with Canyon though? I've heard some horror stories, but some who cant sing their praises enough. Whats their deal?
Cheers!
Matt.

Hi Matt,
I got a Canyon Ultimate CF frame recently. I was very happy with the whole process. I ordered it in Week 23 and the estimated delivery date was Week 32. It ended up coming Week 27 so i was very happy. The UPS delivery is super quick, completely tracked from Depo to Depo. The frame was packaged incredibly well. I've never seen so much bubble-wrap in a box.
Besides the excellent value/spec, little extra's which i was pleased to see were the Torque wrench tool, rubber cable housing 'sleeves' to protect the frame and clear frame protection stickers. There's also a comprehensive manual for everything. It's quality, professional service.
I was kept up to date about my order via e-mail, and despite the slightly grammatically imperfect english, the point was clear each time. So no worries about translating pages of German.
When i was doing my research, obviously not wanting to sink my money into a waste of time, i found that the horror stories seemed to be of guys ordering from USA or Canada. For some reason it seems Canyon couldn't get the logistics right and consequantly they don't ship to North America any more.
The prodcuct itself, great! I love the ride and would reccomend it to anybody. I've simply been blown away by how good it feels to ride. However BikeRadar did a review of a Canyon carbon frame this week and they can explain far better than i can why it is so good.
Just be careful with sizing. Use as many comparisons and parameters as you can. I managed to get my frame the right size, but it was a close run thing, being pretty much bordeline between 56cm and 58cm. Last thing you want is to have to send it all the way back to Koblenz.0 -
Forgot to add that i know a few people now in forum land who have got Canyons recently and they've been happy with their 'Canyon Experience' so far...0

The Ultimate CF, even its "basic" build 8.0 is an excellent bike. The frame is one of the best ones available. Canyon provides it with good or very good specs only and includes also top-notch wheels in the package. The result is as good as it looks.
Highly recommended! Just subscribe to their newsletter and wait for their announcement about an end-of-season sale. It should come in the next few weeks. I've been told that newsletter subscribers have previously been informed one day before the sale is published on their web site. Then all you need to do is to hit the "Buy" button :-) The price is right even without a sale, but if you can get an additional 10-20% off, it's an even better deal.
(My experience comes from 1.5 months of riding a Ultimate CF 8.0. I could not be happier.)0 -
That's the exact bike I was looking at the spec is unreal for the price imo. Ultegra, and mavic ksyrium sls. Thats a 500quid wheelset on its own anyway!
Thanks for the help guys, I'll get on their newsletter and see what it happens. Even though the more I look the more I want the next model up with dura ace... :P0 -
I'm missing something or do the frames not come with warranty?0

You're missing something...
"In addition to the legal requirements we voluntarily offer a 6 year warranty on this year's frames and forks for racing and triathlon bikes as well as on mountainbike frames (with the exception of bearing assemblies and suspension forks). Our warranty is valid from the date of purchase and is non-transferable. Paintwork defects are not covered by the warranty. We reserve the right to repair defective frames or forks or to replace them with an equivalent later model. This is the restriction of any warranty claim. Further costs such as assembly, transport etc. are not covered by the warranty.
Damage caused by incorrect use, neglect, insufficient care and maintenance, crash, excessive load, modifications to frame or fork or the fitting or modification of additional products are all excluded from the warranty. Damage caused by jumps or other excessive loads is also not covered by the warranty.
All other components are covered by the standard 2 year manufacturer's warranty."0 -
well spotted! 6years on carbon frames. that's quite abit more than the industry standard. Hmmm they now seem even more enticing.
Still what would people's colour choices be. Originally I liked the black. looked stealthy. But, now the more i sit looking at white, think it is dam cool.0 -
White - the pro-look !
Loved the look of the Unibet frames when they rode them. If I *needed* a new race frame one of these would be top of my list but I don't, not really !0 -
had my cf slx a year and its mega. The money i paid for it with sr11 and slrs wheel would have not bought a dogma f&f(madnees). Will be buying the new AEROAD new year.eating parmos since 1981

I've had my CF (White n Black Team) for about a week now...Love it to bits.
I built mine up with full 6700 Ultegra and a few small bits of Orange for colour.
I'll pop some pics up in Readers Rides.

I think I'm siding towards a Canyon or Focus, mainly because what they offer at the price range. But I would love to buy an Italian made bike. Is it really worth the paying £x extra for an Italian make?NapoleonD wrote:You're missing something...

As you can imagine buying from a German provider can be a bit problematic especially if something break after you've purchased it. Excuse my ignorance, but how does the warranty on the Canyon bikes differ from those offered at, say, Evans on their Specialized bikes?
Are any bikes covered for crash on the standard warranty?
In any event, It would be great to hear peoples' experiences on Canyon's warranty.0 -
Bruce, you have now become the most dilly-dallying Bike Radar forumite ever!
Surely you want to hear that no-one has ever had to use the warranty!
I'm sure the warranty is fine, buy the bloody bike!0
