Finished putting it together last night, first time I have built up a road bike from components. Rode it in this morning. All ran sweetly, shifts were snappy, brakes excellent, was a good fit.
Didn't need to shift off the big ring so still have to test the front shifting.

Anyone else running SRAM? I'm finding the lever a little stiff to shift up the sprockets, hoping it will loosen up a fraction with a bit of use.

    That so?

Bit vague on the details there.

Have you been on that Planet X site again?

SRAM is super easy to set up. I basically just plumbed it all in, set the limit screws, couple of tweaks on the barrel adjuster and bob's your uncle.

One thing to note, the bottom bracket (the GXP one, if you are on a non BB30 frame) ships with two spacers and the instructions say to use them if you have a 68mm BB shell. This is for mountain bikes only, on a road bike do not use the spacers.
When you put on the non drive side crank you need plenty of grease and a shedload of torque to get it on properly. I had a load of play in mine at first and had to go to town on it to get it tightened up enough, not easy when the only 8mm allen key you have is on a multitool...

I saw someone on a brand spanking new S1 commuting in this morning .

You don't work near Lavington Street, do you? Long shot, I know.

Were you in the car with the bike on the roof?

Hahaha. Yes. That was me checking the new S1 out. I thought you'd clocked me looking at it. :D

I'm off on holiday today down to the south coast and taking the commuting steed with me, hence the car.

Got SRAM on my road bike. Can't really comapre it to anything as the only other gears i've used have been old downtube ones or cheap hybrid/MTB trigger shifters and cheap gears, so i would hope that Reds are lovely compared to them.

Gorgeous! What size frame is that?

    51cm, I reckon.

Those GXP BB instructions are v poor. I used the washers, tightened the cransket, and lo and behold, the cranks wouldn't turn. Excellent start. Took it to pieces, removed the washers, reassembled, and it spun a treat.

Def worth using a torque wrench to get it right though, and I speak as someone who usually eschews such fancy-Dan gadgetry.

    Think it's bigger than a 51 isn't it? A 750ml bottle almost fills my frame, which is a 51.

It's a 54cm frame. You can tell by looking at where the top and downtube join the headtube. On the 51 they intersect, there is a small gap on the 54.

Is your saddle pointing a little bit high? Do you have an unusual perineum (apologies, I usuaully wait until I know someone better before asking that question)?

Still tweaking the set up. I originally had the nose too low, may have overcompensated. Still it hasn't given me any issues on my commute Friday and today, it's pretty much level.

There is less of a saddle to bar drop on this than my old bianchi (which was a fraction small for me), meaning I am much more comfortable in the drops for longer periods.

Merci, this was the subject of much inner turmoil. I was originally going to go for black tape, the hoods were always planned to be red, but I already had a white saddle so white it is. I'm pleased with how it turned out.
