Max tyre size on Open Pro rims

Hi All,
Whats the maximum size tyres you would recommend fitting to my Open Pros?
The rim itself says upto 28mm. However I have been told that I shouldn't go above 25mm on them. By a friend who only runs 23mm on his and by a wheel builder.
I fancy running 28mm now I am able to commute but wouldn't like to damage the rim unnessasarily.
Should I stick to 23s and 25s or will 28s be good to go?
Any experiences would be appreciated.
Thankyou

I've run cross tyres up to 35mm on Open Pros - even at very low pressures they haven't come off. 28mm is absolutely no problem. IME you're more likely to damage a rim with narrow tyres because they don't protect the sides - the worst culprits being 20mm tyres.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

I read an advert last night that said they were for 23-28mm I'm sure you could go a few mm either sid of this without any problems as monty said.0

The man (person) from Mavic says......Recommended tire widths: 19 to 28 mm
I take recommended as you can go as big as you want.....within reason.0 -
Have used 35s on mine in the past. You want snug tyres like Vittoria or Continental, not Panracer if you go above 32 imo. If they're hard to get on, they stay on.0
