I want to put bullhorn bars on my Charge Tap. It has a Nexus internal hub gear, with a grip shifter.
Will I be able to get the shifter onto the bullhorn bars?

You probably will, but the shifter will surely be in a stupid place?0

I was hoping that it would go to the centre of the bar, as it would on a flat handle bar...0

only one way to find out, but it depends on the radius of the bend and the clamping arrangement for the shifter. You could always get a shiftter mount to put on the bullhorn
Maybe something like these ?

Get Straight bars, put shifter on, and then bend them using one of those plumbers tools things ?0

Thanks for the feedback guys, I'm gonna take the shifter apart to see what the possibilities are...0

FWIW copper pipe is never going to be strong enough for handlebars and you're never be able to bend a straight alloy bar without a proper pipe bender. Straight bars are usually 22.2mm dia whereas drop bars are normally 23.8mm - your shifter is unlikely to fit. Get some stubby bar ends for your straight bars instead.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

I knew the copper pipe would be difficult. What I did in the end is to use a wavin PVC tube, put on the shifter & brake levers - secured them with a heat gun. I then used the heat gun to bend out the ends. I have filled the pipe with damp compacted sand to add strength & used insulating tape to add grip. It looks the dogs bollox!!!
The handlebar is a bit flexi, but I only cycle it for about 2 minutes till I get to Brick Lane - It looks good - thats what counts!!!0 -
