Go carbon in a carbon frame. I have an EC70 on my XTC A0. That said If you check out the thread you will see the frame cracked just below the bottom of the seat post! so maybe you shouldnt take my advice
Do you take time to appreciate the lug on the BB shell? Thats one of my favorite parts about mine.Road Bike; http://www.bikeradar.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12727419

Cheaply: Exotic carbon bars and post with a scandium stem.
Pimp: Point one racing stem, easton carbon bars, tune seatpost.0 -
Carbon it is with some more blue or red anodised bits...want it more pimp than one of snoop dogs ho's....0

I have this in vesion Alliance 2, with all SLX groupset
Was changing most of the heavy components bit by bit.
had changed
seatpost = KCNC scandium (need the 400mm for my S size frame)
skewer = KCNC
clamp = KCNC
Rotor = Ashima
tyre = Maxxlite 310
tube = maxxis flyweight
padel = wellgo M20
fork = Manitou R7 MRD (discard the heavy Dart 3 that weight around 2.3kg)
and have pull down the weight to 10.60 kg
plan to change in future
Wheel (Xero element D1 is very very heavy = weight around 2.3 kg for the set)
cassette (OEM's is too heavy , around 410 g, XTR is too expensive, will try to change to XT cassette)
handle bar (need a riser, prefer carbon)
stem (most of the corbon handle bars are 31.8 mm, but the Giant come with 24.5mm)
any suggestion on the wheel that is light and cheap, plan to cut down the weight to less than 10kg in total.0 -
It's a lot lighter now the wheelset has been changed...new FSA Carbon Bars are on, just ordered Thomson Stem, A2Z skewers, headset spacers and crank bolts all in red...wll post another pic also with the new red Panaracers this weekend...
As for rims, Hope pro 2 on Mavic XM717 ?0 -
Some fresh shiney bits....
FSA Carbon Pro Bars
Carbon Head Spacers
Thomson 110MM Stem 0 Degree Rise
Hope Seat Collar in Rer
A2Z Components Red Skewers
A2Z Red Crank Bolts
Red Wall Panaracer Fire XC Pro's

Nice ride. How does it feel having a cardon fibre part frame? Do worry about it breaking?0
-
Rides really well and is now nice and light with the new wheels etc...the rear end being carbon has some flex so seems to absorb some of the bumps..did some research and Giant have a great reputation for designing and building carbon and carbon/alloy frames, so not worried about the frame at all. Its a stunning looking bike and always get comments on the trails..0

What is the weight of the bike?Constantly trying to upgrade my parts.It is a long road ahead as things are so expensive for little gain. n+1 is always the principle in my mind.0

Not sure, as I have never been that hung up on weight as I ride for pleasure and not a racer...will have to put it on the scales, the wheels were a big change..stock it was around 25llbs so I guess around 23llbs now..obviously I could reduce more with a new crank set...but the SLX works just fine and I am over the moon with it0 -
Thinking of upgrading the cranks and shiffters...any ideas ??
XT/XTR or FSA Carbon Cranks
Shifters ??0 -
errm is that seat post clamp on correctly? looks like its just camping around the seat post and not the seat tube? :?0

This. And change those Panaracer's, on an all black frame you can get away with it (like I did), but on a black/white bike it looks completely out of place imo.0 -
Yes the clamp is on correctly it was just for the photo as all the bits arrived at once...so all ok...think the red panarcers look cool as they contrast with the red on the headtube plus all the other bits...???????? any other comments ??
Anyway..plumped for the FSA Carbon Cranks...0 -
The bike is now for sale looking for £800 and it has hardly been used probably 100 milles....I have all manuals etc PM me if interested0
