I am new to cycling - I am 175cm tall and have a 31" inside leg measurement. What would you advise as the ideal crank length for me?

Thanks!

depends on flexibility more than absolute size.

    170mm should be fine though.

at the moment I have a 175mm fitted.

Is there a noticeable difference moving from 175 to 170?

Depends what you feel comfortable with really. Im the same height and have the same inside leg as you. I run 172.5mm ones on the road bike, 170mm on the MTB and used to run 165mm on the track bike. My old road bike had 170mm's too, but I prefer the 172.5's. Many will say you want longer cranks on an MTB compared to a road bike, but I prefer slightly shorter so can keep the power on over rough ground with less chance of catching a pedal.
But as said above, you wont go wrong with 170's.

you wont notice a difference between 175 and 170. If you have 175s - stick with them.

Rough guide, height in cm = crank length in mm. The real determinant is femur length and your riding style / strength - if you like to spin gears then a shorter might be better whereas if you're a 'masher' then longer

    170

some can tell the difference, some can't. It's not a big deal really but I run 172s and I'm 180cm so a bit taller than you.
