Your friends are probably saying this as it'd mean buying it from Halfords, this is rubbish. Yes they do unfortunately have a bit of a reputation, but not one that should put you off buying this excellent bike. For £600 you can get the 2010 model, cracking bike for the money, granted not the lightest, but at this price range thats probably not top of your priority list anyway.

In summary, dont be put off. Venture down to your local halfords and jump on one, see what you think, I doubt youll be disappointed.

We've been looking at those too. The staff do seem a bit clueless however. Prime example was me asking what frame size they had in stock and the lad coming back to tell me 26"!!! It was actually an 18". Clearly confused with wheel size, not too inspiring :(

We also need a 20" and they are not so easy to get hold of. £530 now with the offer so a very good deal. I may still be tempted to wait and see the 2011 version however.

Halfords also have a 20% off online any GT bike. You can order and collect and the offer gets added to the basket when you reserve it. The Agressor seems nice. Decisions, decisions.

I bought from Halfords and didn't have any problems, in fact they were excellent. My cousin bought a Kraken and the front wheel's spokes worked lose after a few rides. Disappointing, but they replaced both wheels free of charge without any arguing.

  • also if halfords still sell them try the 08 fury as it has a very good spec rockshox fork etc for its price got mine for £400
  • Don't be put off by the place that is selling it. It may not be the most amazing shop, but they do have good deals on some decent bikes there.

Only 16inch frame though according to online, and it's hit or miss as to whether an individual store has any of the other sizes.

As others have said, don't be put off. If you think the mechanics at your local Halfords are rubbish, try another one, or pay the extra £10 and order it online. The assembly is just putting the pedals on and fitting the wheels.

I had the 09 Furry at begining of the year and it was a realt good bike, even better i got it for £530. I had to return it when a crack appeared in the head tube, this turned out to be a paint defect and after pointing out that manufacturing defects are covered under the warenty they agreed to replace the frame. The replacement cracked before they finished building it up. in the end they price mached me a Boardman comp as a replacement. Having said that i would have had another Furry but the store manager said he didn't want to risk the same thing happening again. must have been a bad batch as he had never heard of this happening before an they had sold 30 odd Furrys this year. Go for the Furry fantastic bike i.m.o and What mountain bike can't be wrong either.
  • I've had mine since February and it's been abused every weekend in the peak district. You should be able to find my bike in the 'your bikes' section on here, I've posted various bits and bobs in order to pass on my experience.

I was really reluctant to spend money in Halfords on a Carerra, but if you get over this you do end up with a great bike. There aren't many that come close to the spec. If you do get one, make sure you give it a good going over with a set of allen keys just to be on the safe side.

The after-sales service I've had from the Ashton store has been superb, although you do have to be able to identify the one who knows a bit about bikes.
  • Had mine over a year now, and it's had its fair share of abuse since then, including a few crashes. I love it. Still standing up strong and no signs of tiring. I was a little skeptical myself before I bought it, and certainly never planned on buying from Halfords until I heard all of the positive reviews on here. In fact other than the above cracks in the paint, I think that's the first time I've heard of a negative experience with them.

Just bought to Furys today. 18" for wife and 20" for me. Looked at several others at different shops but decided that Fury couldn't be beat unless we spend a LOT more. Changing the pedals and seats though and MAY change at least the rear tyre for wet work.

The Fury is simply the best bike available for this money. Sure, make sure the sizing suits you, but buy in confidence.

Got a fury just after they came out and within 3weeks cracks appeared around the head tube/top tube joint area also paint defects,Halfords swapped bike with no problems and replacement has been faultless so far 9 months later.

I bought a Fury a while back after it was highly recommended on here, then it was stolen and I bought another one.

It's a great bike although both of Furys I bought had a few set up problems. The gears were really badly set up on the first one, and the second one had quite a few minor problems such as bolts not tightened enough etc. Things that were easily fixed at home.

More than happy with my Fury (even more so now I have it out of storage!!:))

Only problems I've had are the pedals clicking. Took it back to Halfords and they said they aren't the best pedals in the world and I'd be better off getting some with bearing in them.

Halfords weren't brilliant but I knew what I wanted from doing some homework on here so just took it away in a box, even got a free pair of hybrid tyres and tubes thrown in.

Great looking bike as well, had a few comments by people when riding to that effect!

My wife has a Fury and loves it.

Its a few years old now and I keep suggesting she upgrade it to something better and newer. She says it does everything she wants a mountain bike to do and doesn't want to change it.
