i went to cwmcarn yesterday for my first ride since i knocked myself out riding at the forest of dean a few weeks ago. i was riding on my own so took it a bit easier than i do when i'm chasing my mates/got my mates behind me pushing me.

and.... i really enjoyed it :D it took me a bit longer than normal but i just enjoyed the flowing singletrack at a nice leisurely pace rather than scanning 10 ft infront of me for that root, rock or whatever. checked out the scenery and even caught 2 guys on the final descent whilst i was taking it easy

anyone else rode a route they always ride and just chilled out and really enjoyed it?

I prefer being 1st to go, or being on my own. If not i tend to follow the person in front of me, rather than pick the best route, and usually end up stacking it!

  • I always like to take it easy or at a more comfortable pace on climbs but i'll try and get the most out of descents.

I'll be riding Gisburn this weekend at a nice leisurely pace :)

Might have to rope you in to show me round Cwm Carn... best keep a day free  hehehe.

I was tempted to do the same. However i cannot be arsed to drive all that way again so Dalby it is for me! No matter how much i complain about it i always end up back there.

I prefer to be following my mate just cos i hate setting the pace. We both take it nice and easy though but i do try to push it on the descents. I'm not sure i'd enjoy constantly racing, mainly cos i'm lazy. I sometimes do it if i'm riding alone though.

I love it when you have both. A nice fast ride that all comes together well, but you still see some amazing wildlife. Had one in CYB a couple of weeks back, everything flowed beautifully, and I even caught glimpse of 4 reindeer, or whatever they were running through the trees
    Epic!

I had that with my mate a few weekends ago, just going up the fire road to get back to the car, and heard crashing coming towards us through the undergrowth. I thought it was a killer dog, so was all ready to push my mate off his bike to bravely sacrifice himself. Two deer came running out just in front of us, they were just as surprised as us!

no worries. just let me know when :D

i went out exploring today with silversladey, we headed towards cwmcarn but didn't get there. but i did find an awsome downhill course that if i was padded up and had my full face helmet on i might have ridden faster   the guys who built that and ride it must be real nutters as it's much steeper than the 'official' cwmcarn downhill track  with a huge 12ish foot drop half way down!!!!

we did about 20 miles of trails i've never ridden before and it was great :D
  • I generally ride on my own so it's usually the case for me. I'm not too fussed about hitting the biggest downhill or beating times, one of the most amazing things about riding for me is the inspiration picked up from the surroundings.

All my mates ride full suss though, so when I'm out with them it's a completely different story. Jiggling eyeballs all the way!
