Hope Matchmakers with Deore Shifters?

Can anyone weigh in on the compatability of Hope matchmakers with Deore shifters (circa 2005)? I am installing new Hope X2 and will be using Deore shifters until I can purchase SRAM XO 10 Speed . Are Matchmakers neccesary? By the way, does anyone have a firm date for XO 10 Speed availability?
