I am waiting for my nature pack and cuddly toy to come in the post
  • I am off to Africa in September. I'll pop over to the Kruger
Oh you lucky man. I love the Kruger. Have a look at my website for some of my best photos to whet your appetite http://www.speedbird747.com/index_files/Page297.html

And at Africam you can view live webcam feed from a waterhole on the edge of Kruger (Nkhoro pan). http://www.africam.com/wildlife/index.php

If you're staying in the Kruger you need to know that some of the camps are in richer wildlife areas than others. The best (and most popular) are Lower Sabie, Skukuza and Satara and the northern half of the park is poor for game viewing. If you're taking photos it'll be from a vehicle so a beanbag or IS lens of at least 300mm is essential. Don't bother with a tripod as you can only leave the car at picnic spots. Keep the lens set wide open as most opportunities will be in low light at sunrise and sunset.

No, not you, Harry I meant. As you rightly point out, there's no need to apologise for such an expertly executed thread-jack.

    sonic, congratulations, awesome.

i've got a boy who's nearly 1 and whilst being a parent is probably the hardest thing i've ever done it's also the most rewarding, he started walking with the help of his walker this morning, it was brilliant, he was so chuffed with himself! can't wait to teach him how to ride a bike. :D

prepare yourself some some tough months though, the first few (or more in our case_ are hell but once they're sleeping through the night it gets easier.

And talking all things Rhino, I read this today and it's a little sad

Sadly a lot of the "poachers" are serving/ex army or ex militia and tend to be good marksmen and also know the areas quite well. This makes it hard for Parks Board teams to catch the culprits.

it is sad to read stuff like that.

i really like rhinos, i saw one very close up in the nairobi national park and went to see a new born one in another sanctury in nairobi too, very cool animals and in both places the animals were free to come and go as they please, typically they keep coming bakc to the sanctuary cause they get fed and looked after.

managed to get hands on a big old white rhino at the sanctuary who was blind, absolutely massive ting but i reckon i could beat it in a fight.

    mmm, pie!

wellll I requested that if people wanted to stalk me they could at least make it worth my while by buying me giftage. I believe I requested a Tiffany necklace, LaPierre Froggy and trip to the alps to go downhilling, and a new snowboard.
