If you have a recent nokia, get this!

My last ride... this is the one i do daily...

http://www.sports-tracker.com/#/workout ... e9fgloqrvg

upload as soon as you finish, plots the points where you took photos, does average, max speed, altitude, hert rate (with extra clip)

and best of all its free to get and use, as it uses gps and if free from the nokia store!

well worth it :)

Be aware it will use data though. So if you don't get free internet with your contract then you'll be charged for downloading the map data.

It's a great app, there is no data charge for using it normally but there are some features that will be chargable (I think there is a tracking function where people can see where you are which uses GPRS/3G). It can cost to upload the ride data if you connect to the internet via your phone but I always do mine through the phones wifi.
The best feature is that if you take a picture it shows on the map where it was taken and if you listen to music on your phone when riding it shows what tracks were playing at different points of the ride.

You can turn off the network connection whilst using it so it won't download anything, and you can upload your rides via your home broadband (if you have Wi Fi) so it needn't cost anything.

Ah, I didn't know that. But I get unlimited data so haven't had any need to investigate it.

And to whoever asked, download it off the nokia/ovi website, and put it on your phone using Ovi Suite. It's free (no charge to buy or use) but if you're downloading maps, you could be charged.

I've used this loads the last 6 months or so but never bothered uploading the routes to the sports tracker site as I thought no one else would have bothered!

You can export the route in to Google Earth too if you're in to that kind of thing.

Only trouble is the last couple of times I've been up the chase the gps has stopped working at around the 5km mark... if anyone else has had this and fixed it your advice would be much appreciated.

It's a great app, and since the developers left Nokia to form this company it's certainly improved. Though the web site is a bit OTT on Flash, but anyway.

There's a possibility it may be ported to other phone platforms too and not just Nokia, but that's only a rumour I've heard.

Best thing Nokia ever did for smartphones.

There are some issues though. Some phones are finding it difficult to get the GPS to lock on even though it shows plenty of satellites and other GPS apps work fine.

P.S. Yes, to stop it using data, set the Internet connection to none or Always Ask (and just cancel it when it asks), and/or set the map data option (I forget what it's called) so it doesn't download maps as you ride. You do loose the ability to see maps during a ride.

Oh, and phones with Assisted GPS (A-GPS), you need to go into your phone settings and disable A-GPS. Think it's normally around the positioning menu under the settings. A-GPS will use a little data to get a quicker fix. Though it's a very small amount of data so maybe not much of an issue.
