I'll be going clay pigeon shooting with work.

Never been before, not sure if it'll be fun or not but one thing's for sure, it'll beat the shlt out of working!

They haven't told you it's your turn to be the pigeon yet?

  • hehehehehe, you said butt

I am looking forward to it actually. It was initially supposed to be quad biking, but they double booked us. I'm quite pleased because last time I was at the quad bike place I got told off for popping a little wheelie, and their quads were gash anyway.
  • Love clay pidgeon shooting. Havn't done it for years. Might ring a mate up see if i can go round his farm over xmas!

I used to shoot clays. Very good at Down the Line (you hit the clay before it hits your head...). That said, I used to use a pump action shotgun (before they became illegal to own) and could fire more than once at the same clay.

    Have fun.

El Capitano, pump action and auto loaders are still legal to own. My mate has an auto loaer and swears pump actions are still legal. It's just limited to 7 rounds maximum

i also know a man with a cabinet full of guns, one of which is a pump action obvious.

IIRC, it's 3 rounds, but I might be wrong. This was a 10 shot, without a stock...

pump and up and under should be banned.

Side by side should be the only option.

    Like mine.

A semi-automatic or pump-action shotgun can only be 3 shot.
The magazine must be restricted to hold a maximum of two shells, with a third in the chamber.

I shall go forth and slap my mate with a day old haddock for spouting such shoot information then
  • Just got back.

I have now decided, I want a gun!

Skeet shooting, fun on a monumental scale! I was actually pretty good for a noob too.

However, having seen the price of skeet guns, I may stick to using the rentals.

£40 for 50 cartridges, the gun, safety equipment and tuition. Well worth it in my opinion.

    it is good fun :)

Only done it a couple of times, but loved it too. But only so much time available & too many things I want to do.
  • It was monumental fun. I managed 37 out of 50 which is not brilliant, but not altogether shabby either. But of course, that's knowing which trap the clays will be fired from. In a proper skeet comp, I reckon I'd be lucky to hit half that lol.

I also noticed I was better at the low level and ground level faster ones than I was at the very high, slow ones.

I think that at £40, it'll probably become something I go and do once or twice a month, just for a bit of fun. we're quite lucky because shooting is pretty popular on the island, so there are a good few shooting clubs within a 15min drive.

37/50 is exceptional for your first shoot i would say.

we have a club on the camp where i work but they shoot on a wednesday afternoon and i am always working.

my line of work means there is always a shotgun instructor somewhere on camp and plenty of spac for shooting, i just never find the time to do it.

I did it last year on my Stag do, was a wicked afternoon. Been meaning to try and do it again this year.

I would usually get the 1st clay, but then the gun would shift in my shoulder a bit and would mess up my aim for the 2nd clay.

  • As I say, we got plenty of warning where the clays would be coming from and how they were likely to travel. and I think it was more blind luck than any sort of skill :P I wonder if being a left hander maybe gave me some sort of advantage?

The guys giving tuition were superb to be fair. They were both pushing 80, told us they'd both been shooting for over 60 years. One of them was barely able to stand up, but he did make a point of showing us all he could still shoot. 2 clays at the same time from 2 random traps, turned them both to dust. If my reactions are even a fraction as sharp at that age, I'll be a very happy man.
