I'm taking the wife on a long weekend to Aberdeen (from Edinburgh) and on the way we will be picking up her new cycle to work scheme bike. Bearing in mind that:

a) This is the first time my wife has rideen in about five years
b) Its a hybrid bike (front sus though)
c) Neither of us is particularly fit

... can anyone suggests some nice easy routes somewhere not too far from the route between Edinburgh and Aberdeen. Something an hour or two long with nice views / scenery would be perfect

Similarly, any recommendations for somewhere near Aberdeen itself?

Cheers

For Aberdeen there is Kirkhill forest just along from the airport. There is some easy fire road with decent views. About 15-20 miles west of Aberdeen there is Pitfichie that has a nice white route with some good views. Bennachie forest walks has some easy trails at the foot of the mountain. If you feel like walking/cycling further up there are some stunning views of Aberdeenshire.
