Lights!

Anybody got any recommendations for a decent set of lights since the evenings are getting shorter. I'm looking for something not too heavy, with decent run time that I can easily unclip for weekends.

I bought a HA-III SSC P7-C (SXO) 3-Mode 900-Lumen LED Bike Light Set from www.dealextreme.com for about £50 delivered - SUPER BRIGHT! It's got 3 modes, full, low and flashing, run time is about 3 hours on a rechargable battery. You can ride on unlit roads at full speed, offraod or it's grate in town on the flashing mode - drivers and pedestrians may sware at you if it's set too high but at least they see you coming!!
Highly, highly recommended!!0 -

I had one of the P7 lights last year 2mins before i was taken out by a car i was at a junction and a woman turning in had to close her eyes and look away as it was that bright! lol It wasnt her who hit me by the way!
They are very bright and prety good beam pattern! I will get another one soon for this winter.0 -

Surely this is not a good thing???!!! Light like that are illegal in some European countries...0 -
I've been using mine for a year without trouble, brighter is better as far as i'm concerned, obviously you need to set the beam so it doesn't blind people - but car headlights are pretty bright as well and in heavey multilane traffic a really bright flashing light stands out way more than some of the lower power lights available which are fine if you are riding in light traffic. I've read all the forums about the longevity of these lights and at only £50 each they are cheap enough to accept the odd duff one - look at the prices of similarly bright lights - £200 - £500!! (i know they have a better build quality and longer battery life, but my commute is only 40 mins each way so it works fine for me.)
if i were you i would by one before the autumn.0 -
My Deal Extreme was great until the battery pack mysteriously died mid ride, only to never work again! Fortunately I had a spare light...
I recently bought this from CRC, looks much more well made, same LED but better battery.

I love my little Blackburn Flea. Three modes, (Low, High, Flashing). I want to get another to give a slightly wider field of view. It is small, but do not underestimate it's power! Greatest thing is that it can be charged off os a AA battery, (I think they make a USB charging model. The taillight is USB charging I'm pretty sure)

I have Ay-Ups. Outstanding lights, light and robust, and going strong into their third (welll, second-and-a-half!) winter of quite heavy use. No regrets at all, they're a quality piece of kit, although I do accept that there are cheaper alternatives around.0 -

I have the on-one version of those lights and the battery life deteriorated over the just one winter to the extent that I barely get an hour of them before the light noticeably dimmed. I hate the size of the battery too. Hope your set fairs better.
My ayups on the other hand I have never had a problem with even though I have the older model which isn't as bright as the current batch. I just wanted a bit more light this time last year so went for more local as the UK distributor had been wound up by ayup but they are back selling direct from the UK so may give it another go this year though I will probably just replace the on-one battery as I have already sunk the money into them.0 -
Probably very easy to make up your own battery packs with protected 18650 cells, probably cost £10-£12, can probably salvage the fittings from the old ones. See these http://www.lumenjunkies.co.uk/index.php ... duct_id=750

Thanks I will certainly have a look.0 -
I use Exposure Strada. Really well made, plenty bright enough for my country lane commute. They give around 12hrs burn time on low(this still quite bright mind) & about 3hrs on high. I use them for nocturnal off road rides too. The RedEye rear light runs off the Strada unit too, this is mega bright. They're not cheap though, that's the only negative.0

I'm trying to raise funds for a hub dynamo this year. I got one of the deal extreme ones last year and love the light. Just don't want it to die on me mid commute like others have.Saracen Tenet 3 - 2015 - Dead - Replaced with a Hack Frame
