Where to eat in Cardiff?

So this weekend I'm off for an all expenses paid trip to Cardiff courtesy of the Royal Mint. We'll be there for one night and I'm wondering where would be good to eat? I think we're staying at the Hilton so anything close to there would be good.

Cardiff Hilton you say? My office is next door...

You really need to get a cab down to Cardiff Bay, Mermaid Quay. That's where all the good restaurants are.

Demiro's = Pretty good steaks, waiters sing opera...
Pearl of the Orient = Good Chinese food, but drinks can be a bit pricey
Spice Merchant = Authentic Indian Food.
Cafe Naz = Good Indian food and a good variety of veggie options.
Bayside Brasserie = Good fresh fish.

If you're feeling flush, El Peurto's on the opposite side of the Bay, in Penarth is well worth a visit.

the bay is nice and you've got everything you need quite close together.

if you don't want to get a taxi just take a walk to st marys street and the brewery quater and you should find something you like. just take a left coming out of the hotel and keep walking past the castle, opposite the enterance to the castle take the road on the left and that's high st/st marys st. it'll take about 5 mins from the hotel :D

not much in the centre from my experiance... head down to the bay... or if you can get down here to Swansea, and ill give you a guided tour of all the best resturants my self!
    I like bikes and stuff
  • Theres a fair few nice restaurants in St. Davids 2 as well... seems to be more and more everytime I visit!

The bay is expensive and can be full of wine drinking "posh" welsh types(no offense haha!) at the weekends though.... I felt right out of place
Plus, once you're there, then thats it... its kinda out of the way of central Cardiff.
The bay is nice during the day... visit Techniquest too... its ace :D

I usually ate down at the bay (because I lived very close bye), city centre has a few chain pub places and chippy alley (always used to be a laugh at pub chucking out time).

Bit of a trek, but I liked Jinglees out Canton way. Might be under new owners now though.

Nope, moved back a couple of weeks ago (it was always a temporary thing). Looks like I'll be off to Scotland soon.

The pasty shop opposite the church is pretty good for a foreign country....

El Peurtos, in the old Pilot House, Penarth next to the barrage.

    Very, very nice!

    Not too expensive though...
