Techno shoes

I've spent years on SPD-u-like pedals, but I've been persuaded that my dodgy knees will benefit from turning to the dark side (depending on your point of view) and bolt on the Easton FlatBoys that have been gracing the workbench since CRC's flood sale last year. Now I need to get suitable footwear...

So, the question now is... Am I wasting my time with anything other than FiveTen shoes? Are the likes of Shimano's AM40 any good (aesthetics aside - they're honking!)? Or DuFFs?

Five Tens are great (esp the stiff sole) but any decent pair of skate shoes will do the job just fine.
