Chain coming off jockey wheel

There's no problem when riding the bike but when I'm cleaning the chain and turning the pedals backwards the chain comes off the jockey wheel.

It's an old Claud Butler with Shimano gears with the levers on the down tube. The derailleur looks as if it may have got bent out of line at some stage. I was wondering if a new one is needed?

Probably the mech hanger is bent on the frame - your LBS has a tool for the job or if the frame is steel, you could try giving it a 'tweak' with a big adjustable spanner
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

Thanks MD - I'll check that out, yes it is a steel frame, I use the bike for touring.

I have been known to bend the rear mech back straight after it's been given a prang, just have to be danty with it and no rush. If you're scared to do it, drop it off at a good, well know cycle shop and see if they can sort ya.
