Hi,
I am looking to purchase a Colnago Ace and wanted some advice on the sizing.
My height is about 5,7.
Thanks in advance

Given how much said bike (indeed, most Colnagos!) cost, would it not be wise to try a few out, any maybe invest in a bike fitting to see where you are fit/numbers wise?0

52sI like white bikes0

48s or 50s - unless you're very bendy cos the 52s is probably too long with a 55cm toptube which would be more suited to someone an inch or two taller.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

I was thinking 52, but wasn't sure because of there sloping frames.
The bike is not available at my lbs so can't try it so I can only make an educated guess. Unless there is something with a similar frame?0 -
I have a CLX, the seat and top tube dimensions are the same as the Ace.
I am the same height as you and I have a 52s and it's perfect.
You really need to try it though, you might prefer a 50s for instance, for me on a compact frame the seat tube is much less relevant than the top tube. For example a 50s seat tube would be fine for me, I'd just have the seat post a bit higher than I do on my 52s. However I think that the top tube would be a little shorter than I would like on a 50s hence why I went for a 52s.
If you are one of those riders that likes a lot of seat post sticking out again you might prefer a 50s.
One things for sure, you won't be disappointed.0 -
I'm surprised you think a 52s is the right size for you. I'm looking at a CLX and I've read posts from riders of 5'9"/5'10" saying the 52s is perfect for them. I'd have said a 50s, but I guess if you want a more relaxed effect, the bigger size will give you higher bars in relation to a lower seat.I'm at that difficult age... somewhere between birth and death.0

Interesting. I am after a Colnago Ace, so will the same apply?0

If you're really not sure I'd take Jimbo's advice and go and try one. It's a 2 grand bike, so it's got to be worth a bit of effort to get sized up.I'm at that difficult age... somewhere between birth and death.0

The first point I would make is that I don't think it's the right size for me, it is the right size. I have over 3000 miles on it and I feel comfortable and relaxed on it.
You are right in one way about the more relaxed effect in terms of bar to seat height but in another way I preferred the slightly longer top tube on the 52s as I like to be a little more stretched out.
In the end for all that is talked about the importance of fit I don't really believe that 2cm is neither here nor there on a compact frame.
What is true though is that in the end it's a very personal thing and the only way to be sure is to try the bike out before you buy it.0 -

.
Confusion: I was directing my surprise over the size at OP.
As for 2cm not making much difference on a compact frame... depends where the 2cm is.I'm at that difficult age... somewhere between birth and death.0
