Tapered steerer into a non-tapered head tube

Just ordered my now ubiquitous Ragley mmmBop frame so have started to muse about what bits I'm going to throw at it..

With regards to the fork, I've seen a few with tapered headtubes and was wondering:

1. Is it doable?
2. Is it worth it - ie. will the benefits of the tapered steerer still be there?
3. Do I just need a specific headset, or is there a combination of headset and spacers required..?

    1. No
    2. See above
    3. See above
  • A mmbop is 1.5" headtube so yes i believe you can fit a tapered fork, you would just need the correct headset.

    Ignore the above poster.
  • Yup It is possible like the man above says. It is merely a case of finding the right headset.

I seem to remember Chain reaction cycles having some in.

Any suggestions for headsets..? The reducer ones I've seen seem to be for fitting a 1 1/8" 'straight' steerer to a 1.5" 'straight' head tube (e.g. the Superstar Grande Bambino).

This seems to do the job.. but does anyone know if they're any good - not aware of the brand..?

    1. Yes
    2. No idea.. probably stiffer, main reason would be to take advantage of some bargain forks.. Keep seeing really cheap Tapered forks, possibly shops over stocking on something pretty rare.
    3. Yes. Maybe this one?

[Edit - Bah.. too slow.. see above]

Cane Creek sell top and bottom headsets separate so you can mix n match. Speak to your local Cane Creek dealer.
