I am doing my first Sportive next week and have done all the training. I am concerned that my bike is sound and would like to know if there is anything else I should be looking at. I am riding a Spec Allez with Sminano SPD pedals and have;
Cleaned the chain and cogs
Oiled chain, cogs, pivot points on mech
greased pedal threads
checked wheel spokes, (wheels ever so slightly out of true, but not enough to rub on brakes.
checked for lose bolts etc.
checked the tyres for splits and cuts
The bike has done 750 miles since new although mostly in dry conditions
Is there anything else to do?

Headset adjustment? Hold front on and rock bike back and forth - if there's any slight movement, adjust it.
Check the tyres for embedded flints - pick 'em out with a small screwdriver.
Wipe-off all the excess oil you've applied, it doesn't do anything except gather dirtMake mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0 -
Check the screws on the cleats on your shoes - both me and a mate had issues with cleats as screws had come loose or out. Don't forget your tyre pressures.
Might be worth making a list of things to take on the sportive - spare tubes, tyre levers, multi-tool and chain tool, gels, other food etc. I also take wet-wipes and latex gloves to keep hands oil free after any mechanicals.
Above all just enjoy it!0
