Can any one recommend a decent pair of shoes and peddles from halfords for my defy road bike.
Some thing easy to get my foot into but basic to start out.
The reason for halfords is convenience so I can just pop in.
Bit confused by all the options out there

Probably the easiest and most robust pedals out there are Shimano M520. They're actually 'mountain bike' pedals, but they are double sided, easy to get in and out of, and cheap. As for shoes, they will need to be SPD compatible, get whatever is comfortable.FTT

In Halford you will pay 3x what you would from an Online retailer.....
The M520 is what I use, and I have no real need to upgrade from these as the design means you can use fully recessed cleats, so walking is no problem at all.

£20 here... The same amount that Halfords charge JUST for the SPD cleats lol!

recessed cleats for walking, and pretty decent price. Although with the shoes, you might want to try some on in Evans/LBS etc to make sure they fit right, then order that particular model online.
EDIT:
If you desperate and foolhardy with cash:

Hi,
Remember to set the pedal spring tension to low when you first give them a go - helps to avoid those toppling over at traffic lights moments0 -
Just to add to the advice given that different makes of cycling shoes are not always the same as your normal shoes. ie my bontragers are size 40 when my normal shoe size are 28. Sidi's are the same. just a thought :roll:0

Edit last 38 not 28 :oops:0

If you can try some on, even at Halfords then save your money and buy at a bike shop on or off line.
I have just bought my winter shoes with a big discount and was allowed to take home to try for a few hours in the house to make sure they fit me correctly (thanks Merlin ).
Same price in store as on line!0 -

I got the peddles from wiggle but if I get the shoes from halfords I will also need to get cleats ?
If I ask for a pair of cleats for M520 peddles I might come out with a sat nav or some thing.
I only see these which say there for a different peddle

Have a look at the Q&A's on the link you posted for the pedals, it confirms the cleats come with the pedals.0 -
