Will I notice these changes?

Got Bontrager Hardcase 25c tyres on at the minute they replaced some conti ultra sports that were shit and kept puncturing.

I am under no illusion that the Hardcase's are heavy, will I notice a different putting on some different/lighter tyres? Thinking GP4000s or something eqaully ressiliant but light?

Got those pedals that have spd one side and flat the other at the minute as I use the bike to ride to work, but its not far enough to warrant bike shoes.

Will I notice a different chopping these in for some SPD-SL's (I've got RO76 shoes so not sure if I can fit LOOK?) maybe the 105 ones to match my group...?

thanks guys

The GP4000s won't be as resilient as a specialist protection tyre, but they are a very good compromise. You will definitely notice a difference in performance. Get them, or Michelin Krylion Carbon tyres, you won't regret it.

For the pedals - you will notice a small difference in the stability of the shoe on the pedal, as SPD-SL pedals are wider than SPDs. But if you've already got the shoes and pedals, wait till the pedals or cleats wear out, then think about switching them, especially since you commute with flats.

You should be able to fit LOOK cleats to your shoes, I think these days all road-specific pedals use cleats with the same bolt pattern. I've got Mavic pedals with my Shimano shoes.

you will be able to fit Look cleats, as they're the same bolt pattern as shimanos.

If i were you though, if you DO want to go to SPD-SL, then look on ebay, a bike shop are selling the 105 pedals (Same ones as on wiggle for near £60) for £37.50.

Got mine in the post yesterday, and it feels so much more secure than normal SPDs.

    Thanks guys,

I'm selling off some bits at the minute, so will probably buy the tyres when the cash comes in from there.

With regards to pedals, the 105 spd-sl's are £40 on CRC with free delivery so thats not to bad.
