Scottish coast to coast suggestions, please.
Myself and a mate are hoping to complete a coast to coast through Scotland, probably next year. We're both in Aberdeenshire but don't mind where the ride begins. Any advice or suggestions would be most welcome. Thanks in advance.

The route from Fort William to Montrose seems to be a fairly common coast to coast route. Roughly 300km long , taking you over Corrieyairack Pass and Mount Keen into the bargain. Never done it myself but seen it in a few guide books.
I have done the short one - Bonar Bridge to Ullapool. Only 35(ish)km long, mostly on rough landrover track, but there is a fair bit of tarmac on the east coast side. It's a long climb from the east, but the gradient is so slight it's hardly noticeable. There's a nice finish at the Ullapool side as you keep some height right to the end, before dropping down into the village.
You could make a weekend of it and stay overnight in Ullapool before cycling back the next day. The climb out of Ullapool sorts out the hangover pretty quick too0 -
Thanks Wildhighlander. I actually Googled "Scottish coast to coast MTB" after I posted this thread and everything I've read so far ties in with what you've said above, or thereabouts anyway. Looks like the route to take. Thanks for taking the time to reply. After uphill there's downhill0
