Im thinking of buying one of these three helmets. I know the most logical answer would be to get the one that fits but no stores in my area carry these helmets and whichever one I choose would have to be ordered in for me. And no, I cant order all three of them! From a price and a performance standpoint which helmet is the winner? I really like the D2 but kinda get the idea that its a bit more of a status thing and isnt worth the extra dough. I want something light and breathable (dont we all?) but just want to make sure i getting the most from my monayy, ya dig?

  • None of them if you can't try them before you buy.

Which ones CAN you try on?

My choice would be the THE.

I have an ordinary Evo and love it but my next helmet (won't be long till then I don't think with all my crashes  ) will be a THE, hopefully a carbon one but will have to see what I can afford.

I'm sure the EVO is sightly lighter but offers slightly less protection.

And the Troy Lee, they are overpriced but I wouldn't mind a carbon D3

They all fit different, so get yourself to an NPS, or any large 4x/DH race series and try all of them on.

none of the ones i am considering. i know its not the right way to buy a helmet, but from purely a value standpoint, which is giving you the best bang for you buck/ most for the money you pay for it??

    best value, the 661.

Cheapest, and protects you just as much as the rest.

TLD are most expensive, but everyone loves them.
  • I have a TLD D2 and I think it rocks. My mate has just got a 661 evo and TBH I could tell the difference between the build quality of the two. But then one was £200 and the other £50.

Coming from a motorcycycling background you can spend £500 on a lid or £50. Both do exactly the same job which is to protect you bonce in the event of a spill. And the rest is all vent design, streamlining material composites, and designs.

As everyone else has said, try some on and see what feels right and more importantly fits. Then pick that model in a design you like and your away.
TBH designs are a bit overrated anyway cos you'll ruin that when you bash it.

Hopefully that might be little bit fo help somewhere along the line
