Scorpion Punish

New to mountain biking and just started hitting some tougher courses. My Giant Rock isn't really up to the XC courses I have tried so looking for a better bike with a low budget (for now)
Found the Scorpion Punish for £299 in Evans which seems to have all the spec I need for some beginner XC and DH but I'm worried about the following:
1) I have never heard of Scorpion!!!
2) I can't find any reviews on this bike
3) It has a Suntour SF-Xcm fork which gets wildly fluctuating reviews
Anyone heard of this bike? Any other suggestions in this price range? I quite like the Trek 10 2010 but I don't think evans has my size and no where else has it under £300 - any thoughts on this one?

Rockrider 5.3 or Carrera Vulcan at that price I think.
I'd not be doing DH on any of them though. Unless you mean riding down a hill as opposed to *actual* DH.0 -

I'm tied between:
Mongoose Tyax Sport
Rockrider 5.3
Scorpion Punish (if anyone tells me it is ok!)

Scorpion bikes are from the Claud butler group of cycle companies along with Falcon.
The Punish is a pretty heavy bike & not as well specced as the Rockrider which is a much better bike for the money, then the Vulcan then the Punish
