Hi everyone I'm heading to Dumfries next week for some mtb ing, just wondering where the best place to go is? I heard Kirroughtree is pretty good but fancy taking in a few different trails whilst I'm down that neck of the woods.

Also does anyone know of any nice bike friendly places to stay for 3 days or so?

Would be ace if anyone had any idea, just let me know.

Cheers

    As for riding Kirry is THE best Stane, 1hr from Dumfries
    Mabie & Ae are approx 1/2hr drive, 45min bike ride from Dumfries.
    Dalbeattie is 45min from Dumfries.
    You can, depending on fitness ride 2 in a day.

    Drive on up to Kirry, ride the black. Return to Dfs and rest, eat & sleep.

    Drive over to Dalbeattie, ride, return to Mabie, ave lunch and ride.

    Drive up to Drum, ride. Drive down to Ae, have lunch, ride. Return to cafe, have shower, food and drive home satisfied :lol:

    Old school rooty fun can be had at Drum;

    stayed here a couple of weeks ago, very friendly and storage for the bikes too, will definately stay there again next time i go up

    Kirroughtree is a little over an hour from dumfries and is well worth a visit
    Mabie and Dalbeattie could both be done in one day, i'd do dalbeattie first as its longest in the morning then head over to mabie for the afternoon
    Glentrool, while not a trail centre as such is an amazing ride, great views and we rode for about 50km without seeing another person

    Not been to Ae so can't really comment on it, glentress is well worth a visit but is 1hr30 plus drive from dumfries

    Only done three of the seven so far but Newcastleton and Mabie are relatively straight forward red routes. The one I didn't like was Ae. Compared to all the other red routes I’ve ridden it just seemed like it was made in a hurry and was still to be finished off. A lot of the downhill berms were just loose scree making it difficult to get any purchase on them. My neighbour has done them all and says that without doubt Kirroughtree is the best.
