Mardy Bum, Ladybower
Off to the Peaks on a family holiday next week, so I've set aside one day to ride for the 1st time in the Peak District. I've bought this map:

and was wondering if anybody on here has followed any of them? Was thinking of doing 'Mardy Bum' as it seems a good one to cut my Peak District teeth on.
Any suggestions welcome.

Not a bad route to start with but there are loads better routes around there. The Tarmac climb up from Shatton is a brute. The descent down Pindale has suffered alot lately as there's a motoX play ground halfway down in the old quarry.
The Pain for pleasure route is slightly better but both routes are just tasters really.
If you only have one day then do either.0 -

If you're heading out from the Hope/Castleton road then I'd suggest a loop on the other side taking in Hollins Cross and across to Hope Cross. If you've got a bit more time then do the climb up to Lord's Seat, around the hill and down Jacob's Ladder as well.
The stuff on the Pindale side is OK, but if you've only got 1 day of riding in the area there's a lot more rewarding routes nearby.0 -
I've done a good route that can be done in a day and takes in a good part of the Dark Peak. Its starts in Hathersage, drops into Bradwell, back out (monster climb) round the back of Mamtor, down Hollins Cross, through Edale (nice coffee stop by the train station) then another good climb to the Roman Road, back down Win Hill to the Yorkshire Bridge, endless tarmac climb before taking in Stanage Edge and back to Hathersage. Its about 50km in all.
I can email exact route, it can be complicated. Having said all that, how about just getting a map and seeing where your nose takes you, the Peaks is so good on a nice day you hardly ever come across a bad route.
