I am soon to be relocating my job to Coventry, work is near the Ricoh Stadium i believe. As I know nothing of the area, I was hoping that someone may be able to put me right on which areas are ok or to be avoided. I was thinking of Nuneation area and it must have easy escape routes into the countryside. Also, what is it like for riding round there? any pearls of wisdom appreciated.

Nuneaton, Bedworth and beyond will be good also heading out to Rugby is nice, you aren't too far from Kenilworth, Leamington and Warwick if you like long rides or want to do a bit by car 1st.
Are you likely to be living near The Ricoh Stadium
I am in Stratford part of Warwickshire and am just beginning to strecth my legs / distances ( just got into biking 3mths ago), so I have not ridden that way , but have covered a large part of it through work. You might want to avoid both inner and outer ring roads as it can be hairy in a car let alone on a bike
Good Luck with new job and re-location0 -
I originally come from NW Coventry and when I return to visit family I like to cycle in the network of undulating lanes to the north of the city, i.e. to the west of Bedworth and Nuneaton. Here's a route I plotted for another BikeRadar member:
CJ's lanes around Corley/Fillongley route
Leicestershire (to the N/NE of Nuneaton) us pretty flat. running NW from Nuneaton there is a bit of an escarpment with some steepish little climbs going up it.
If you want a nice long ride, you could go SW from Nuneaton to the Cotswolds and back, That would be about 110-125 miles and take in some lovely countryside and challenging hills. (If you are interested in that I could upload one of my tracklogs to Bikely for you.)0 -
Thnks for both replies, much appreciated.
I dont mind using the car once in a while to skip Duel carriageways etc. so heading down to Stratford/Cotswolds sound very good. Im not to keen on flat, being built for hills, but do like the rolling stuff very much. My work location is to the North of the M6 so I may take a drive upto Nuneaton on Sunday for a mosey around!
Early stages yet, but as its so central in the country, sounds like a good idea to maybe organise a road thrash up with a few forum members, bite to eat after etc. once i get moved and settled.0 -
Head out of nuneaton towards Fillongley, nice part of the world0

Okay, I've uploaded the route of the Cotswold Challenge which was (near enough) a century ride from Meriden, not too far from Nuneaton/Bedworth. It was organised by CTC - Heart of England so check out their website for details of this and their other rides.
The cafe stop at Batsford Arboretum would probably be better reached via the roads rather than the dirt track we used on the day! (Anyway, the gate will probably be locked.)
I wrote about my ride on the event here on my blog.
To get to Meriden from Nuneaton/Bedworth, you can just bomb down the B4102, or you ride to it via the lanes through Corley.0 -

Welcome to Coventry, home to some of the biggest climbs in the uk NOT.
you will struggle to fine much in the way of hills in and around our fine city. If i want rolling terrain I tend to head south to southam and Bambury which is the start of the cotswolds and is about an 80 mile round trip from home in NE Coventry. I dont tend to go there often as im built for the flat.
here is a link to one of my regular jaunts on a Sunday. I tend to ride north mostly and have a lot of routes which lie either to the east of the M69 and go out to Market bosworth (killer cake stop when the Sunday Market is on) and Atherston or to the west of the M69 where you can use the Fosse Way.
