Just trued my first wheel, the rear on the Vitamin to be exact. But I managed to spend a good 20 minutes scratching my head as it got worse and worse the more I tried to correct it, finally figured out that to tighten you have to twist anti-clockwise :x Then got it back in line and its beautiful again. :D

Are all wheels the same or was it this way due to being made in france?

Look at how the nipple screws in from the top

Like a normal screw. You are looking at it from underneath with a spoke key.

Ah well, I got it done now :D Really chuffed with it to be honest, it's one bike maintenance tasks I have been putting off learning for fear of screwing up wheels.

Yeah I think I need to buy a spoke key, I used an adjustable wrench

deffo get a proper wrench and well done i would say.

wheels always seem like a terrifying thing but for the most part, they are pretty simple really i think.

that said, ive never built a wheel which is my next thing to learn to do, i cant see why it would be so hard, its just bolting stuff together really isnt it?

The actual building of it is fine, but getting the balances of tension just right so that the wheel is perfectly round, perfectly straight, and has equal spoke tension all round is the "art" in it.

Well the wheel got me to work and back and didn't fall apart :D And it even remained true after I took it down stairs and off curbs on the ride home

I had forgotten how fast slicks are when you aren't riding the brakes constantly :D
