Hi. Recently completed a 100 mile bike ride for charity using a 11 year old mountain bike. I have decided to buy a road bike as I will be doing more milage more often now. I have just purchased a specialised allez elite 2010 and wondered if this was a good choice? I read up on it before buying and it's seems to be perfect for my needs. Have I made a good choice? Don't collect it till later tonight so have not been on one yet. Is there anything that needs changing from stock?

To be frank I'd change nothing. Get on it, ride it for a few weeks then you may find some problems - seat hurts ya bum, tyres are a bit scratty etc.

First thing I'd change would be the stock mondo tyres, they are very poor IMO, when compared to something like conti GP4000S.

Other than that, as they are, they are a very good bike.
  • I did exactly the same thing a couple of years ago, and like you I brought a specialized allez. I loved it. I only changed stuff as it wore out TBH. Other changes over time were a carbon seatpost and a new set of wheels. IMO, I'd ride it until you get more experienced/want more from it and then think about upgrading.

    Hope that helps.
    Road: Bianchi Cento Strade C2C
    MTB: Trek Top Fuel 9
    Other: TBD....

Pedals, that's all i'd change. Put pedals on that you feel happy with, obv if you're from an mtb background, shove some mtb peds on and use the clips you have already.

First thing you'd probably want to change is the tyres, but have a few hundred miles on it first, you may need to change something else before the tyres to suit you better.

Well i picked it up and what can i say, i LOVE it. Looks so gorgeous in red and white. Although the pedals are wa*k so i'll be using my old dmr v8 pedals as suggested above. other than that its spot on i think. love the flight deck system. how did i ever get on without it lol.

As far as the pedals are concerned think about going clipless soon and you will wonder how you ever did without them, they will will also look so much better than them big old DMR,s.

..plus clipless pedals confuse the local scrotes who can't fathom how they would ride away quickly if they nicked it.
  • I have been thinking about buying the specialized allez for a few weeks now, and having just come back from holiday I have realised that a lot of stores are selling out of certain sizes of the 2010 model quickly.

Does anyone know when the 2011 models will be out, and if it is worth waiting for the new model?
