Some advice needed here folks.

We're off for a family hol to the middle of nowhere in Carmarthenshire in a week or so and I'm taking the MTB in the hope of getting a few outings. It's near some place called Pumsaint that I've never heard of before, it's about half way between Llandovery and Lampeter.

I reckon I'll get a few blasts locally while wife & kid are messing around getting ready or cooking  , but I fancy going to a trail centre if I can and will have to take them with me.... Thumbing through a recent copy of MBUK there are a couple of trail centres not too far away: Brechfa and Coed Trallwm. Which one is better if I've got an 8 year old on a mountain bike-shaped object in tow?

MBUK reckons Brechfa is "family friendly" but it could be marketing bo**ox.

Waddaya reckon?

brechfa is very jumpy with big berms normally, muddy and often steep. I would go elsewhere with an 8 year old in tow myself.

i believe there is a blue route at brechfa but i'm not entirely sure. coed trawllm is supposed to be really good but the trails are short. you tried here?

there's no trail centre at brechfa so if the family are with you then maybe coed trawllm might be better as there's a cafe etc :D

Thanks for the advice lads 8) Never been biking in Wales so no idea about the area where we're going. A bit of pot luck makes it fun.

Hopefully we won't have to hole ourselves up in a remote farmhouse with loads of tinned food and machetes '28 Days Later' stylee :D

    That was a film?
I thought it was a documentary about West Wales.

I think you're right, although allegedly the scenes where they are chucking petrol bombs was filmed in North Wales

Petrol bombs, yeah. We do that all the time round here. It's our national sport, like tossing at the gaybar is the Scottish one. (or something like that)

I just remember some story from years ago, probably an urban myth, that when they were torching holiday cottages some wag was going around spray painting 'Plaid Cymru Fire Engine' on the side of Shell petrol tankers in North Wales :) .

Nope, that was probably true. There was a huge protest about the holiday home things, and the rights of Welsh people.
It was a very, very big deal.

I do the Brechfa Blue/Green route with 7 and 11 year old sons. They'll love it.

Brechfa gets my vote in that area! its awsome fun, for all the fam, the red and black are good for regular riders, but for less experianced the green and blue trails are just awsome, infact i love them just as much as the Black there, they are great fun, jumpy, flowy, fast and great fun, but nothing even vaguley dificult, and al totaly rollable!
    I like bikes and stuff

Ta for that - think I will Brechfa a crack. Might even get to sneak off and do the tricky stuff for a bit
