Sram rear derailleur adjustment
When I try to engage the 8th sprocket the chain moves onto this sprocket but when I release the lever there is a click and the chain drops onto the 7th sprocket. Changes up to the 8 sprocket are fine and there is no click as the lever is released. Any suggestions would help. It's the first time I've fitted Sram!!!.

I presume the gear change over the remainder of the cassette is fine?Ben

Hi Ben, thanks for your reply. yes it's only the inability to get onto the 8th,9th and 10th sprockets. I now think that the shifter lever is not at the bottom of it's travel when the chain is on the smallest sprocket. Cable adjuster seems a bit weird.0

I think you have answered your own question.
Remove the cable from the clamp on the rear mech.
Pull on the cable and operate the gear lever up / down through it's full range just to check it is working correctly and finish in the 10th gear position.
Reconnect to rear mech clamp (make sure it is threaded correctly through the mech).
Pull the cable to take up any slack and tighten the clamp.
Now adjust with the adjuster for perfect shiftingHe is not the messiah, he is a very naughty boy !!0 -
i had a simalar problem.best way i to remove the cabel from the mech.pull the cabel at the same time as changing down with lever to release the cable all the way out.rejoin it back on mech with a bit of tension in cable.doing this sorted mine so should be ok.oh my god not another hill !!!0

Thanks everyone. That took sometime. Basically it was as we all thought and it took quite a while to learn when the lever was bottom'ed out. Not like Campag where you can pull the rubber back and have a look. Also I'm being a bit naughty as the sprockets are Marchisio/Campag. Anyway it's working now. Thanks again.0

Hi everyone - an update. The shifter cables that come with Sram levers are Goride. After lots of faffing about I found that these stretch!! Not just a little - a lot. Fitted Shimano cables (not easy fitting replacement cables to Sram levers) and consistency of changing became 100% better. My conclusion is that Goride cables are crap.0
