Is there any point in reporting ebay items that are blatently misdescribed?
Do they do anything about cancelling the ad or questioning the seller?

I used to do it all the time with mini's that were blatantly ringers. Ad usually get removed. Whats the link for this item then?

It's not a shocker, an FSR XC advertised as a Stumpy, claiming the fox float shock is worth 2k. Probably ignorance rather than a deliberate attempt to mislead, just got me thinking.

You sure they weren't saying bike is worth 2k and just badly worded?

Just ask the seller a question and get them to clarify before contacting eBay.
  • Nope...the rear shock is worth 2k :?

sounds like the person who is selling clearly has no idea about bikes. Nicked?
Bikes are OK, I guess... :-)

    Antique value perhaps?

I read this sort of thing from time-to-time I always wonder the same thing, do they really have no clue what they've got, or it scum selling a stolen bike who equally know bugger all.

Yeah, the feedback score was also a factor.
It's not a BSO in V10 clothing, just very misleading if you're new to bikes.
  • Beware of that ad, guy is obviously just trying to scam someone when he nicked it.

Saw an ad on ebay a few months ago that was for a XC bike, beleive it was a rockhopper if I remember correctly that had a manitou minute fork up front. He claimed the bike would handle any downhill sections you threw at it, and because of this the bike was worth nearly 3k. Depressed me seeing bids even on it, I think it got up to about 1300 before I reported it.

The seller's a numpty! He cleaned the chain and sprockets with a wire brush! So, that's 2 items that need immediate replacing - has he not heard of degreaser

    Report it!

I'm a fan of a certain model of cars, I was questioning a guy selling one on fleabay recently and he got really arsey about it. It was obvious that there was something very iffy about it as some of his claims were blatant lies (i.e. ad said it had Sat-Nav, photo showed that it didn't...).

So in the end I reported it. He then re-listed, still without correcting the ad so I reported it again...

He's only accepting cash on delivery, immediate breach of Ebay rules, gotta offer paypal these days.
It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
    Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result

If someone buys that then they deserve what they do or don't get.

If you need to protect people from that then you really are doing them no favours in the short or long term!

Get it for a hundred and risk the police coming to collect it when reported stolen, pay more and risk getting mugged e.t.c re no feedback.

it's a typo surely, why do you think the bike is stolen?

Vague and incorrect description of the bike.
    What drivetrain has it got?
    What wheels and tyres?
    Why only cash on collection?
Why only a mobile number(not suspicious in itself, but doesn't help)?

He has put a note correcting it now. Still wouldn't buy a bike from someone who has no idea what he's selling though.
