Hi,

I'm a beginner roadie looking for a nice commuting route, can someone help? CycleStreets has the quietest route as going past the St Helens Canal? Is this a good route?

Thanks!

Get yourself to Sankey Valley theres a route from by Gullivers world and then use the TransPennineTrail route to Speke it uses the St Helens canal. Its pretty well signposted and surfaced but prone to being covered in doggy land mines so use mudguards. The last bit into Speke is on roads but is signposted and quietish apart from around school time.

Westbrook to Sankey bridges and then follow the signs for route 62 along the canal , across spike Island and then it follows the river to Pickering Pasture. Down to the woods at the end then through Hale village and you come out next to the airport.

Have a look on google earth as you can find a few short cuts and cut out a few miles as there is a few different options to take along route.

    I commute that way 5 days a week .

    Thanks,

Well if you see someone wobbling around on a Bianchi Via Nirone give me a shout! I've not bitten the bullet and done it yet, I need mudguards :)
