Hi i was in a bike shop today looking to buy a Sram x-9 front mech to match the rear i have already when the bike assistant told me that i would be mad to buy one as (and i quote) "everyone knows that all Sram front mechs are a bunch of shite!!!" Well needless to say i didnt know this, so i must either be the only one or he is talking bollocks, so is this true and if so why?? And what should i run instead upfront ? Being as this is for a hybrid btw!

well dont forget that tou will need to keep the RH sram mech to work with the Sram rear mech.

    PS they work fine.

  • I do intend to change both shifters to X-9 versions so that shouldnt be a problem and i take it you mean i would have to keep the RH shifter NickLouise ? lol
  • But what would you guys recomend i use as a front mech option to be the most compatable for my rear X-9??

on my felt i have x-7 shifters, an x-9 rear mech and an xtr front mech, works fine :D

(that all came as standard btw)
  • Fair enough i will keep it in mind, so what is basically being said is its personal choice?

Shimano front mechs and shifters are cross compatible with SRAM ones, it's the rear mechs and shifters that aren't. XT is the shimano equivalent of X.9.

I have an XT front mech on one bike and an X-7 on the other and I don't notice the difference.

Why do you want to change :?: If it ain't broke don't fix it :!:

This guy you were speaking to, did he have a Luxembourg accent? Just wondered if it might have been Andy Schleck ;-))
